Last night, having finally finished the last little bit of building my new web site, I pushed the button to "publish it now" and I watched as the little circle kept going round and round and round. It had been a long time coming, to get to this point and I was eager to see it live. Finally the computer stopped and that little icon stopped turning.
It seemed like an eternity until a message finally appeared. I silently read the message aloud. Please allow 48 hours for the domain to be processed. It was going to be another two days!! I couldn't believe it. I was so utterly disappointed, I can't even put it into words. My heart sunk and my entire body posture went numb. I was bummed.
I had been working on this project, in a round about way, for quite some time. The process actually began about four or five months ago, when I decided to go from blogging to freelance writing. I had decided to take my writing to the next level. I got involved with HubPages and started listening to tutorials and reading their Blogs and began participating in the community. Most of my previous writing had focused on issues relating to the Interior Design business.
This new process was fascinating and challenging. I was stretching new muscles, and using different parts of my brain. It was stretching mental muscles and it felt great. The process of listening to podcasts, participating in an online community, and learning an entirely different trade was sucking me in. So the next step was to entertain the idea of making money on the pages where my articles were being posted!
The process of studying, learning, and writing had always intrigued me. In business I had mentored Design Students in college, while they were doing a college internship, and others who needed hours in the field, before being eligible to sit for the State licensing exam. Teaching was both challenging and very satisfying.
So if we fast forward to last night, I had a similar feeling of having studied for an exam and the uploading of the website was the "pass ~ fail scenario. I felt like I had just gotten a paper back and received an unsatisfactory grade. I knew the entire experience could have been completely and totally much worse. I could have deleted the entire site and had no backup to fall back on. Thank G-d. What a Blessing!! Quickly I got to a place of complete "gratitude."
Twenty-four hours have passed and I'm still waiting. In the meantime, I thought I would try and figured out why my my blogs were being re-directed. My http://www.meiselsdesign.blogspot.com was being directed to our company website. It took most of the day, to figure out that Blogger is redirecting a lot of existing blogs to the new Google+ platform.
It made sense. In fact, during the last few weeks, while I was struggling to understand codes and "geek" language which never really meant much of anything to me. I had been toying with the idea to just switch to a business account of Facebook. It seemed like the most logical thing to do.
Once the new domain is up and running, the plan was to formally make an announcement, "We will be moving!!" It seemed like an e-announcement to my followers on Blogger would be a welcomed idea. The new Google+ platform is totally easy and so user friendly. I had just gotten all comfy-cozy and fairly settled-in, but this was a curve ball which I just could pass up.
The new Google Music, Chrome and Plus are neat. They're faster and sleeker and actually very competitive with the whole iWorld of products. So that's the scoop from me. Keep a watch out for the "formal announcement," it should be coming very soon. All of my blogs will be going Google+ in about 30 days.
Hope you will join me there!!
